Years of protection

Ceramic Coating

A ceramic coating is a liquid glass that hardens onto your paint. Dirt struggles to stick, rain rolls straight off, and the shine lasts years instead of the few weeks you get from wax. The Exterior Detail and a 1-step paint correction are included, applied in your driveway.

Start to finish

The process

Every package includes the Exterior Detail, a deep clean that pulls grit out of the paint, and one machine-polish pass for light swirls and micro scratches. Then the coating.

Included in every ceramic package

  • Professional hand wash + foam bath, or a rinseless wash
  • Bug splatters and road grime removed
  • Wheels + rims deep cleaned
  • Deep clean that pulls out ground-in grit (Decontamination)
  • Close inspection of every panel
  • Right polish + pads for your vehicle
  • pH-neutral prep spray before protection
  • Premium tire dressing applied
  • Plastic trim cleaned + UV protected
  • 1-step paint correction included

Deeper scratches can take extra polishing steps at $250 each. The Interior Detail is separate, and you can add it when you book.

Before you decide

Is a coating right for your vehicle?

Worth it if…

  • You are keeping the vehicle — the gloss lasts years, not weeks
  • You want washing to get faster and gentler
  • Your paint lives outside in Pacific Northwest rain
  • You are happy to follow the aftercare below

Probably not if…

  • You want protection from rock chips or a shopping cart — a coating is not armor
  • You want something you never have to think about again
  • You are selling soon — the three-month sealant in a regular Exterior Detail is better value

Both include the wash, prep and polish above. The only difference is how many years the shield lasts — and the price.

Small = sedans and coupes (Audi A4, Civic, Corolla) Mid-Size = SUVs and crossovers (BMW X5, Forester, RAV4) Large = trucks, big SUVs and vans (Escalade, Tundra, Yukon)

After the coating

The protection

  • Rain beads up and rolls off, and Pacific Northwest paint sees a lot of rain
  • Road grime, brake dust, and sap struggle to bond, so washes get faster and gentler
  • UV resistance keeps color deep instead of chalky
  • Gloss that lasts years — where wax lasts 4–6 weeks, and the sealant that comes with a regular Exterior Detail lasts about three months
Straight answer on what a coating is not: it is not armor. A coating shrugs off chemistry (UV, salt, droppings, grime), but it will not stop rock chips or a shopping cart. And it locks in whatever finish is underneath, which is exactly why mine always include the correction first. Deeper defects? Add correction steps at $250 each, or read up on Paint Correction.

After I pack up

Keeping it working

A coating does its job for years, but the first week and a simple routine decide how well. This is the same guidance I give every coating customer — it differs by product, so here it is for both.

2-Year Ceramic Coating

CARPRO CQUARTZ UK 3.0

  • Water is fine after 1–2 hours; the coating fully cures over 5–7 days
  • First wash after day 5, with a pH-neutral, coating-safe shampoo — Koch-Chemie Gentle Snow Foam is the one I recommend
  • Every 3–6 months, a coat of CARPRO Reload 2.0 after a thorough wash refreshes the water behavior
  • Nothing harsh on the paint — skip iron removers, tar removers and rubbing compounds, the strong stuff on the auto-parts shelf

8-Year Ceramic Coating

Adam’s Advanced Graphene 10H

  • Keep it dry for the first 24 hours; full cure takes 7 days
  • First wash after day 7, pH-neutral soap only
  • A graphene detail spray — Adam’s Graphene Detail Spray — refreshes and recharges the coating between washes
  • Every 3–6 months, Adam’s Graphene Boost — a graphene coating spray — tops the protection back up
  • Rated up to 8 years — worth an annual once-over, and a maintenance coat tops it back up if a spot ever needs one
What I recommend for both: skip the automatic washes with brushes, and avoid harsh or acidic cleaners. A gentle hand wash with pH-neutral soap is all the routine cleaning a coated vehicle needs — the top-ups above are the only extras — and the coating is exactly why those washes stay quick.
